Puerta Bonita is one of the most residential zones of Carabanchel, and it has many incentives for anyone who wants to live in this district. It is an especially interesting place for families who are looking for a relaxed place to reside.

The neighbourhood enjoys a good public transport network, with buses and metros, but also a few shopping options.

The most important streets in this neighbourhood are; General Ricardos: one of the most characteristic streets of the district of Carabanchel, as it crosses practically the whole district. Calle Ricardos starts at Marqués de Vadillo and ends at Eugenia de Montijo.

Another important street, Avenida de Oporto, starts at Plaza Elíptica (or Plaza Fernández Ladreda) and ends at General Ricardos. Recently, a bus and metro interchange was added to the beginning (Plaza Elíptica) and another to the end (Oporto-Valle del Oro), and these interchanges connect with the southern part of the community, for example, Leganés and Móstoles.

About halfway down the avenue, there is the metro stop of Opañel, with an exit to Calle Portalegre.

You can find Centro Cultural de Oporto, with its numerous socio-cultural events, at Calle Braganza, 78.

What to see in the neighbourhood of Puerta Bonita in Madrid

One of the most interesting sights to see in the neighbourhood of Puerta Bonita is, as you might have guessed, Puerta Bonita. It was previously called Puerta de Madrid, and it was constructed in the 19th century by the English foundry of R.W. Kennael & Cº & Falkirk. It disappeared in the 1980s when there was a traffic accident involving a crane that was working there.

Madrid City Council restored it, together with some of its smaller pavilions, in June 2005.
